- Evaluate your present skills and competencies; can they help you achieve your career goals? Do you have enough capacity to occupy the desired position?
- Skills Acquisition and Update; which skills would you like to acquire or update? Categorize them. Example; leadership, management, relationship, communication, technological, marketing and sales, finance, budgeting and negotiations skills among others.

- Why do I need a professional certification or training?
- What kind of professional certification or training do I need?
- Do I need professional membership and license? If you desire to be a full-fledged professional, then you need to go for your professional membership and license.
- Where do I get them? Your choice of training organization determines what you come out with. If you go through a consulting firm, you might have only a certification which in most instances is seen as certificate of training; not necessarily considered as a professional certification. If you engage in a legally recognized and approved institute, you will have your professional certification, membership certificate and license. So, it is advisable to go through professional institute. Note: This does not make the training of consulting firms invalid.
